Leachim Nadiresh
“Public
House of Cards”
February 2009
Leachim’s artwork focuses on public houses and their role
and function within British society, often charting the
decline of this role.
These installations utilize a collection
of European beer
mats and other bar paraphernalia from the 1970’s and 1980’s,
drawing on nostalgia for a time before alcohol came to represent aspiration
and sophistication and was instead seen as a simple enhancement to
everyday life.
Each of these displays serve as a very
obvious metaphor for
the fragile nature of the public house in today’s fragile economic
and physical environment.
